The McConnell International Foundation exists to challenge issues of poverty and conflict throughout the world, supporting innovative and sustainable solutions while engaging young people across borders and cultures. The core programmes of MIF focus on areas that we believe are essential for sustainable development: education and skills building, peace building and conflict resolution, and good governance. At the heart of all of our programmes is the desire to engage young people and empower future generations.
All of the money raised by our team in the United Relay will be distributed between two excellent causes.
Firstly, funds will be provided for the Clyde Cash for Kids charity in the west of Scotland. Cash for Kids exists to support the most vulnerable children with opportunities that are not being provided or cannot be provided by their own families. A new programme has been established to support vulnerable children during school summer holidays with life-changing experiences. Funds raised through United Relay will support that programme.
Secondly, Lord Jack McConnell has just returned from visiting the work of UNICEF in refugee and internal displacement camps in Kurdistan, northern Iraq. Children are now living in these camps for several years as a result of the conflict in the region and these children need both schools and protection services. Funds raised by the McConnell International Foundation United Relay team will directly support new services for these children, supporting the work of UNICEF Iraq. We hope you will support our team and even consider joining.
